이화음악데이터베이스 (EMDB)는 국제음악원전기구인 RISM (Répertoire International des Sources Musicales)의 동아시아 지부 한국대표협력기관 (RISM EA Working Group)으로 공식 활동을 하고 있는 이화음악연구소 (EMRI) 가 한국 연구 재단 (NRF)의 지원을 받아 2011년 11월 부터 "동아시아 근대음악교육자료 수집 및 데이터베이스 구축" 사업을 수행하면서 동아시아의 음악 원전인 1차자료들에 대한 정보를 저장하고 공유하기 위해서 개발되었습니다.
서양음악의 수용 이후, 동아시아 근대음악의 양상에 대해 구체적이고 통합적으로 접근하기 어려웠던 가장 근본적인 이유는 동아시아 1차 자료를 위한 아카이브 및 데이터베이스가 그 동안 제대로 구축되지 않았기 때문입니다. 이화 음악 데이터베이스는 이러한 이유로 동아시아 1차 음악자료에 대한 정보의 등록을 위해 구축되었으며, 정보 검색에 있어서 사용자 친화적인 웹 기반 콘텐츠를 제공하는 것을 목적으로 합니다. 따라서 이화음악데이터베이스는 사용자가 필요로 하는 자료에 대한 검색을 가장 효율적이고 효과적으로 제공할 뿐만 아니라 동아시아 근대 음악 원전에 관한 통합저장소의 기초를 형성함으로써 음악연구의 새롭고도 강력한 도구를 제공 할 것입니다.
이화음악데이터베이스의 온라인 정보는 연구와 교육을 목적으로 제공되는 것이며 상업용으로는 사용할 수 없습니다.
